COACHES CORNER
So July is already here! That means that the summer swimming season is already more than half over. We’ve only got about five weeks until regionals, and six until provincials! With so little time left until our peek meets of the season, every practice counts. Hopefully now that school is over people can make practice more consistently. A very distinguished coach once told me that for every day a swimmer is out of the water, it takes three for them to get back to where they were. So try and make all the workouts: give yourself every opportunity to succeed instead of simply drifting through the season. Practice time for the three day a week athletes remains the same for July as it was in June and August. For the five day a week swimmers, we are now getting in the water at 4:30 on Monday and Wednesday instead of 5:00. There is still dryland on Wednesday from 4:00-4:30, and from 4:00-5:00 on Friday. Now that it is July my brother Evan will be helping out coach the team. He has his level one coaching certification and has coached with the Red Deer Catalina Swim Club for the past two years. He joins Janet, Cory, and myself in coaching you hooligans for the rest of the season. Wish him luck. Over the past weekend Nicole Cossey competed as part of the ASSA All-Star Team at Alberta Provincial Championships. She did great! Her top finish was in the 50 Freestyle, where she posted a time of 30.02 (long course) and placed fourth. Give her a pat on the back for a job well done next time you see her. A few other reminders: Bring a water bottle to every practice and swim meet. Talk to a coach (from our team) before and after every race. Remember to think about the “little things” during practice. Now lets do all we can to get ready to race fast at the rest of the meets this season. This weekend we are going to be trying for our five consecutive top place finish at our home meet here in Innisfail (we have won it the last four years, haven’t we). So let’s get ready to rock! Rylan
